Mindset Matters

Throughout this book, I’ve made reference to mindset and how important it is to develop a healthy, positive one so that you can deal with life stressors, both big and small.

This is because as a mental health nurse, one of the things I consistently discuss with my patients and advocate for is a positive mindset.

The more you educate your conscious mind to think positively, the more your subconscious mind will begin to mirror this mindset till it becomes part of your normal day to day life. I teach my patients a whole toolbox of tips, tricks and strategies that they can use to challenge the negativity thoughts in their heads and focus on the positive.

But for now, I want to share with you the absolute hands down, best strategy that you can use to help master your mindset.

That strategy is affirmations.

Affirmations aren’t some woo woo, make believe spiritual practice. They are actually an evidence based strategy used to reprogram your mind. They work by repeating a phrase that reprogrammes your mind, making it stronger and
ready to deal with everyday stressors.

Affirmations can reprogram your subconscious and help you to create a healthy, positive mindset, but only if you truly want it.

There’s no point just half-heartedly saying affirmations, because then you aren’t committing to them actually meaning something to you. You need your subconscious and conscious minds to know that the affirmation is something
that you really want, you need to truly believe your affirmation.

To really ensure lasting change in your mindset, make sure to reinforce your affirmations. This means you should read them at least three times a day. Repetition is your best friend when it comes to using affirmations. Once you have written your affirmations, make sure you keep them some where you will see them each day.

You can stick them to your bathroom mirror, dashboard, set them as reminders on your phone, whatever works for you.
You can have affirmations for every part of your life such as health, relationships and finances.

There’s no limit to the amount, just ensure they are actionable, you believe in them and you commit to saying them each and every day. Its that simple! Also, make sure to review your affirmations regularly to ensure they are fitting with your life. You can change and adapt your affirmations as you continue to grow and achieve the goals you set in life.

The key to change is committing to it!

Commit to using affirmations and I guarantee that after just seven days of continued positive reinforcement, your mindset will begin to change, your happiness levels will increase and most importantly, your resilience will be higher, making you better equipped to deal with whatever life throws at you.
